Seattle United Board of Directors Elections

Seattle United will be holding elections for its governing Board of Directors, to be confirmed at its Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) on October 19, 2015.

Positions open and board structure. Four (4) positions will be up for election this October. Under the Seattle United board structure, there are 13 elected at-large positions; four (4) board members appointed by the Regional Operating Committees (one for each region) and two (2) board members appointed by our parent association, Seattle Youth Soccer Association. Elected board members serve two-year terms; appointed board members serve one-year terms.

Scope of responsibilities. The Seattle United board is a governing board. Practical day-to-day management of the club falls to the executive director and coaching director, who are supported in soccer programming and operations decisions by the Soccer Operations Committee. The governing board handles financial matters, governance, fundraising, audit, management personnel decisions, and provides broad oversight to ensure the membership is being served. This structure is in keeping with best practices for a non-profit organization of Seattle United’s size, and is designed to ensure that any one individual on the board cannot wield undue influence. Board members sign a conflict-of-interest policy and accept a fiduciary duty to act on behalf of the entire membership and interests of the organization.

Slate of Candidates. In our June and July Newsletters, we published a request for volunteers interested in serving on the Board. In accordance with the Club’s Bylaws, the Governance Committee has recommended a slate of candidates for the four (4) open positions, listed below. Any member of the club, regardless of whether they are on the proposed slate, may nominate any other member of the club, or self-nominate and run for a board position. If you wish to self-nominate or propose another candidate for an open position, please provide us with a nomination proposal that includes the nominee’s name, a personal statement of the nominee’s qualifications and proposed contribution to the board, and written acceptance by the nominee of his or her nomination. Nomination proposals for all nominees must be submitted to Kevin Long at not later than Monday, September 26, 2015.

The nominees for elected board positions, as nominated by the Governance Committee, are:
